The Detroit Kite Festival aims to be a fun day of wonder, play, relaxation, and community in all its forms. With thousands of friends and family coming together, we want to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all, even in the heat of that pure Michigan summer sun.

By attending the Detroit Kite Festival, all participants agree to:

  1. Pack for a summer day outdoors - Bring water in refillable bottles, sun protection, patience, and flexibility. Free water will be available for everyone. There is no weather date, so come prepared in case of rain!

  2. Leave (potentially) offensive/inappropriate clothing or outdoor gear at home - Participant activities must not promote discrimination, racism, sexism, or engage in hate speech or advocate for violence.

  3. Prepare to share -  We’re all here to share in a joyous event, which may mean sharing space, sharing skills, sharing kites, and sharing smiles. You’ve been training for this!

  4. Strike a pose - DKF will be documenting the event for promotion. By being present, guests agree to have their likeness captured. If you absolutely do not want your likeness to be published in DKF photo or video, please visit the Welcome Tent upon arrival at the festival.

  5. Maintain access and conditions of facilities - Guests are asked to please keep the accessible restrooms on-site available to those that specifically require them.

  6. Consider travel footprints-  Belle Isle is buzzing in July, and DKF is only one event of many. Guests should plan to carpool, bike, or take the bus to the island when possible, and prepare for traffic and park pass enforcement by the DNR.

  7. Talk to us - Please communicate immediately with event organizers and volunteers if any safety issues or other pressing concerns arise. We also welcome suggestions for maintaining a welcoming, inclusive event.

  8. Support the festival - While a kite festival is a simple concept, there are many costs that come with seeing it to fruition. Please consider making a donation to bring DKF back for 2020 or telling a friend why they should come next year. Be sure, too, to let us know if you are interested in joining the planning committee.

  9. Have fun - We hope you enjoy every second of DKF2020!
